Fee is afraid of Bartleburt, a tree spirit who works at the library, and chases him off for thinking he'll do bad things by making him quit his job. As a punishment when Fee is told to go get his job back and apologise, Bartleburt curses her to be a tree spirit too for her reluctance to ask for his job back.
