After another late night out Clark arrives late at a crime scene, wearing the same clothes he wore the day before. Sipowicz comments that his new lifestyle doesn't suit him. Back at the squad, Det. Laura Murphy has joined the detectives as Ortiz's new partner. She comes from a group that did background checks on future cops, no real detective work according to Sipowicz. She assures him that her three years as a uniform have prepared her for working on the street. They are also anticipating the arrival of a new CO. The morning's victim, a Dr. Miller, was reported to be in New York researching a book and he received two phone calls that the detectives are going to follow up.
